3.10.2012 ‘Defiant Culture’: A debate on Syria’s creative dissent
On 18 October the Prince Claus Fund organises in the Hermitage Amsterdam a debate with Jameel, director of the satirical Syrian puppet show Top Goon: Diaries of a Little Dictator, Arab media specialist Donatella Della Ratta, Syrian communication expert D. Midani and Malu Halasa, editor and journalist on the Middle East. The Prince Claus Fund organises this debate as a side-event to the exhibition 'Culture...
14.9.2012 Lecture on civil society in relation to the ‘Arab spring’
On 7 September professor Sadik Al-Azm, one of the Middle East’s most notable contemporary thinkers, gives a lecture at the Prince Claus Fund Gallery. Al-Azm speaks about the concept of civil society in relation to the ‘Arab spring’. He makes remarkable observations on citizenship in the Arab world and the Syrian revolution that rises without a ‘Tahrir Square’.
8.9.2012 2012 Prince Claus Laureate Mwangi visits the Netherlands
On 5 September 2012 Director Christa Meindersma announces Boniface Mwangi as a 2012 Prince Claus Laureate at a presentation in the Prince Claus Fund Gallery. In the week preceding this event Mwangi visits several institutions and organisations in the Netherlands.
7.9.2012 Live presentation of two 2012 Prince Claus Laureates
On 5 September Director Christa Meindersma presents two of the 2012 Prince Claus Laureates in the Prince Claus Fund Gallery: the Burmese comedian and activist Maung Thura, alias Zarganar and photo-activist Boniface Mwangi from Kenya.
5.9.2012 Grote Prins Claus Prijs 2012
De Grote Prins Claus Prijs 2012 is toegekend aan Eloísa Cartonera. Deze Argentijnse non-profit uitgeverij publiceert handgemaakte boeken van gerecycled materiaal met een opmerkelijk esthetische en literaire kwaliteit. Tien andere kunstenaars, denkers, filmmakers en culturele organisaties uit onder meer Syrië, Birma en Somaliland/Somalië, worden daarnaast ook geëerd.
