2012 Prince Claus Laureate Mwangi visits the Netherlands
On 5 September 2012 Director Christa Meindersma announces Boniface Mwangi as a 2012 Prince Claus Laureate at a presentation in the Prince Claus Fund Gallery. In the week preceding this event Mwangi visits several institutions and organisations in the Netherlands.
During his stay, Mwangi gives a.o. a presentation at Het Nutshuis in The Hague, where Mwangi’s work is shown in the exhibition The Price of Tribal Politics (until October 18).
The presentation is attended by many students documentary photography and graphic design from the KABK (Koninklijke Academie van Beeldende Kunsten). Mwangi tells them enthusiastically about his work and answers questions by the students. Afterwards he states: "If one student hears my presentation and asks: what can I do as a young photographer, to change the world?… then I've made a difference today."
Besides this, he visits the Uitmarkt in Den Haag, the Humanity House and is a.o. interviewed by the Dutch daily journal Trouw and Radio Netherlands Worldwide.
Mwangi's programme in The Hague is organised in collaboration with Creative Court.

Boniface Mwangi
Boniface Mwangi (1983, Taveta) is a photojournalist and exemplary photo-activist. He is awarded for his evocative photographs on the challenging social issues in Kenya. As an autodidact he covered the violence that followed the 2007 elections in Kenya and his work is published by a.o. The New York Times and the Guardian. Mwangi quit his job in 2008 to set up Picha Mtaani (‘street exhibitions’), a non-profit organisation that promotes non-violence and reconciliation through culture.
