The Ministry of Foreign Affairs is the Fund’s main source of finance. The Fund is extremely grateful to the Ministry for the support that it has received since its inauguration in 1996. In 2011, the Prince Claus Fund received € 4.070.652,-.
In 2011, the Prince Claus Fund received a contribution of € 500,000 from the Dutch Postcode Lottery.
The Prince Claus Fund and the Amsterdam Fund for the Arts combine forces in an international art programme that brings art and culture from all over the world to Amsterdam in a series of special activities. Interesting individuals from around the world come to Amsterdam and highlight topical issues through fashion, art, photography, film, music and dance. The programme is characterized by quality, diversity and innovation. The activities that are organized illuminate and deepen urgent and relevant subjects from unexpected angles and disciplines.
Through the Culture and Conflict programme the Prince Claus Fund and the Commonwealth Foundation support cultural activities that respond to conflict and post-conflict situations in collaboration with civil society organisations. The programme builds the capacity of local practitioners and cultural organisations as they work with communities and addresses issues of reconciliation and prevention of future conflict. This joint initiative focuses on 4 specific countries, namely Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
With generous financial support from ICCO & Kerk in Actie, the Prince Claus Fund in cooperation with IFLA (International Federation of Library Associations and Institutions) supports the establishment of a mobile treatment centre to restore archives and library collections after the earthquake in Port-au-Prince, Haiti. The treatment centre will function like a mobile response unit in the Caribbean area once work in Haiti is finished prepared to respond to documentary heritage in need after conflict or disaster immediately.
For a period of three years, the Prince Claus Fund cooperates with New York based World Monuments Fund to restore cultural heritage damaged by natural disasters. While the Fund can respond quickly, the WMF has the capacity to carry out long term restoration work, thereby enhancing the sustainability of the emergency aid the Fund provides through its cultural emergency programme. PCF and WMF, with the additional support from TEFAF, are restoring Drametse Lhakang in Bhutan, one of the most important and iconic temples in eastern Bhutan. Drametse Lhakhang has been severely damaged by the earthquakes that hit eastern Bhutan in 2009 and 2011. PCF and WMF also supported the Lubuak Barah mosque in Pariaman, Sumatra, as well as the Santo Leo Church, both damaged in the 2010 earthquake.
In 2012, the Prince Claus Fund again received a contribution of € 500,000 from the Dutch National Postcode Lottery. The Prince Claus Fund regards the Postcode Lottery’s assistance as both moral support and a form of recognition that also helps the Fund to raise additional backing from other sources.
