7.3.2012 2011 Prince Claus Award presented to The Book Café

On Thursday 8 March the Dutch Ambassador to Zimbabwe, HE Ms. H.M.B. Joziasse, presented the 2011 Prince Claus Award to the Book Café. The ceremony took place in Harare, Zimbabwe, in the presence of Prime Minister Morgan Tsvangirai. The Prince Claus Fund was represented by director Christa Meindersma.

Salvaging the collection of the Egyptian Scientific Institute

2.2.2012 Salvaging the collection of the Egyptian Scientific Institute

During a protest on Tahrir square in Cairo at 17 December 2011 a Molotov-cocktail missed its intended target and caused a great tragedy to the Egyptian Scientific Institute. The building with it is treasure trove of books, manuscripts and writings – most notably the handwritten 24-volume Description de l'Egypte – was set on fire.

On Thursday 2 February, cookbook writer Claudia Roden was interviewed by Hanneke Groenteman at the Nieuwe Kerk in Amsterdam. As part of the exhibition 'Judaism: A World of Stories', the Prince Claus Fund and the Nieuwe Kerk organized this evening with Claudia Roden shared stories of her quest for Jewish dishes around the world.
